Rachel Harrington – Driving Change in the Auto Tech Industry
Rachel Harrington is a service technician at Executive Auto Group that is changing the automotive landscape. Rachel was recently interviewed by Joy VanderLek for the Record-Journal where she discussed what sparked her interest in the field and what the industry looks like for women.
Rachel’s passion for the automotive industry began when she was a freshman at Wilcox Technical High School. Here, she was able to see automotive technology as a viable career option. Rachel fell in love with the field and has not looked back since. She pushed back at the social construct that the automotive industry is “for men” and followed her career goals. She is now finalizing her degree in Automotive Technologies at Gateway Community College.
As a heavily male dominated career path, Rachel is the only woman in the service department at Executive Kia and one of the few in the automotive industry. She went on to state in her interview that women make up only an underwhelming 9.9% of the service department sector.
Harrington is an inspiration to all young women looking to break the glass ceiling and follow their career dreams. She advises any women who are interested in the automotive industry to not hold back and follow their passions. “It’s not a man’s job, it’s a job,” she stated in her interview. “Women can do it just as well, if not better, than men.”
Executive Kia encourages all women interested in positions in the automotive industry to follow this passion. You can find open positions on our website here. If you have any questions or concerns regarding job openings, please reach out here.
