Gearing Up for Spring With Executive Kia

March 10th, 2021 by

Winter’s end is near and now it’s time to make sure your car is ready for spring. Months of snow, ice, sleet, road salt, and cold take a toll on your car’s body and engine. Let’s go over some ways you can prepare your car for warmer days ahead, preventing future problems and headaches.

Wash Your Car

Freezing temperatures and salt on the road will leave their mark on your car’s paint job. It’s important to clean off any debris and salt build up prior to a new season. If you choose to go down the route of washing it yourself, be sure to get every nook and cranny to neutralize the salt, and ultimately save your paint job. Use soap and cleaning products specifically for the exterior of your car to prevent further harm. Whether you want to wash your car yourself or take it to a car wash, your car will thank you.

Replace Wiper Blades

Harsh winter weather destroys wiper blades. Make sure you replace your dull winter blades with new blades for spring. New windshield wipers are affordable and fairly easy to install yourself. Prepare for spring showers with new blades that will clear your windshield, not scratch it!

Check Your Oil and Fluids

Most drivers change their oil every 3,000-6,000 miles. Whether you drove that much or not, due to the operational demands of winter on engines, spring is a good time to check your oil. If you’re running low on oil or any fluids, top them off. If you notice you need an oil change, head to a dealership or service center. If you’re feeling handy, you can even change your oil yourself and save a few bucks.

Check Your Tires Condition and Pressure

Winter can also wreak havoc on your tires. If you were using winter tires, it’s a good idea to change them come spring time. This is due to the fact winter tires are not made for the milder conditions of spring. If you use standard tires, now is a great time to check the condition of the tires and make sure the tread is not too worn down. Due to the fluctuation of weather from cold to warm in early spring, your tire pressure will most likely change. Make sure all four tires are properly inflated and can still grip the road. This will help you save money on gas mileage and can save you from blowing out your tire!

Check Your Battery

Finally, as winter comes to an end, you want to evaluate your car’s battery to be certain your car’s electrical system is functioning properly. Luckily, many auto shops have free battery checks so you can find how much life your battery has left. If your battery is low on juice, be sure to get a new one so you won’t be left stranded in your car with a dead battery.
